Gold and silver became costlier on Tuesday. In the national capital, gold on Tuesday edged higher by Rs 170 to Rs 46,544 per 10 grams, despite a firming rupee. In the previous trade, gold had closed at Rs 46,374 per 10 grams. Silver also rose by Rs 172 to Rs 61,584 per kg today, as against Rs 61,412 per kg in the previous trade.

The rupee opened higher by 9 paise at 74.13 against the US dollar in early trade on Tuesday.

A strong rally in the domestic stock market The rupee on Tuesday closed with a gain of three paise at 74.19 against the US dollar. However, a firmer dollar in overseas markets and rising crude oil prices weighed on investor sentiment.

In the global market, gold was trading at $ 1,801 an ounce and silver was trading marginally lower at $ 23.60 an ounce.
